Photo identification
How to sanity-check a visual identification
A second look helps separate a plausible match from a confident guess. Compare the result with the visible features and the place where the photo was taken.
A clear sequence
- List the two or three traits you can see clearly.
- Check whether the suggested name fits the shape, color, and scale.
- Look for a second source when the subject could be harmful or easily confused.
- Mark the entry as uncertain instead of forcing a label.
- Update the journal when a later observation resolves the question.
A transparent uncertainty note is more useful than a precise label that you cannot explain.
